The Governor’s Award, 2018 and Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Award, 2018 were given away at a function organized by managing committee of Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, Haotal (Pangei), Manipur at Asha Jina Complex in Imphal on Monday.

On the occasion, Governor of Manipur Dr Najma Heptulla, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh and former bureaucrat Dr R K Nimai Singh were the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Governor’s Award for the year 2018 was conferred to Laimayum Preety Devi, student of Class XI (science), R K Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, Haotal, Pangei.

Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Award, 2018 was conferred to nine awardees who showed excellence in various fields including topper of HSLC examination, teaching profession, physically challenged persons, sports persons like arm wrestling, cycling, mountaineering, trekking, taekwondo, wrestling and judo.

The Governor’s Award was instituted in the year 1998 in order to promote and encourage the students of Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, Haotal, Imphal in pursuit of excellence in academic and co-curricular activities.

The award carries a certificate and cash of Rs 15,000.

The R K Sanatombi Devi Award was instituted in the year 1983 to recognize and encourage passion and excellence in various fields like education, art, drama, sports, social service, differently abled person, traffic control (police), journalism and handicraft.

It carries a certificate and cash of Rs 10,000.

While delivering her speech, Dr Najma A Heptulla said that knowledge is no short of fighting war today.

“Our children are going abroad for seeking higher knowledge. We fight ignorance, poverty though we are equally rich in art, craft and culture. To promote these, we should include them in curriculums of modern education. Such century old knowledge will be a great service to our people,” she said.

As part of the awards ceremony, top three trainees in the B Ed Examination 2017, Manipur University of the R K Sanatombi Devi College of Education, Imphal were felicitated with mementos and prizes were distributed to the position holders of students of the school, especially students from Class VIII to XII.

Later, a cultural show was performed by students of the school.
