Imphal: Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey has assured a delegate of transgender to extend all possible support for their welfare in the state.
This assurance was given when three transgender social activists led by Malem Thongam met with the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Thursday.

According to a communique issued by the Raj Bhavan on Friday, the three delegates during the meeting also submitted a memorandum to the governor demanding prioritization of restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
They said the state has been facing a 14-month-long crisis which is against the wishes of the citizens in the state and it affects all walks of life including the transgender.
They requested the Governor for her support.

The Governor assured all possible support to the transgender in the state.
There are 1,343 transgender in Manipur as per the 2011 Census.
However, the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur is surveying transgender persons in the state for collection and compilation of data on transgender persons through submission of self-declaration forms in the state. Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director of Social Welfare, Manipur in a notification states that the gendered persons may collect the prescribed form from the nearest Anganwadi centres and submit a daily filled in the self-declaration through the Drop-Box placed in every Anganwadi centres before August 20, 2024.
