As many as four people including an eight-year-old child have died after suspected militants reportedly opened fire at a ceremony in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

On the other hand, two more people have sustained injuries in the incident at Gamnom village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

The incident took place during a funeral of four Kuki National Liberation Army (KNLA) cadres.

Suspected militants opened fire on the people who gathered at the funeral ceremony on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, top police officials of the state have rushed to the village to take stock of the situation.

Manipur chief minister Biren Singh has condemned the incident.

“My government cannot tolerate such an act of challenging the life of the peace-loving people of the state. Violence has no place in democracy. I condemn the excessive action of the terrorist in the strongest terms,” said CM Biren Singh.
