This was stated by Maimon Anil, the general secretary of the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union (AMRTDMWU), in a press statement on Wednesday.

The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Senapati District Student Association (SDSA) and the Amadi Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) have imposed an indefinite blockade, restricting movement of all commercial vehicles in Manipur’s Senapati district, since November 2.

The blockade was imposed to protest the assault of two Naga youths in Imphal West district’s Lamsang on October 30 this year.

Earlier, the Manipur Police said that three perpetrators involved in the crime had been arrested and relevant legal proceedings would be initiated against them in court.

However, those calling for the blockade continue to protest.

Stating that several truck drivers and handymen are facing hardships due to the blockade, the union’s general secretary appealed to the concerned parties to reach an amicable settlement as soon as possible to resume normal traffic flow.
