This was informed by deputy commissioner Lalithambigai K of Kangpokpi district (in Manipur) on Wednesday during a meeting with the representatives of clubs, churches, women societies, civil society organisations (CSOs) and student bodies of the district.

The meeting was held at the conference hall of the DC, Kangpokpi, to discuss matters related to the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. Deputy commissioner Lalithambigai who is also the district election officer(DEO) of the ensuing elections also appealed to the CSO members of the district to co-operate with the district administration for the conduct of “free and fair elections” and asked them to contact the DC or any other official of her office if any problem arises.

The toll free number 1950 is also active from 9 am to 9 pm everyday and any citizen can raise any complaint, query and even provide feedback regarding election matters, she added.

The DEO also reminded that voter slips will no longer be the stand-alone document for casting votes and all block-level officers (BLOs) were directed to personally go and distribute the voter slips to the voters as per EC guidelines.

Sharing his view, SP Hemant Pandey stated that as Kangpokpi is arranging elections for the first time independently and the DC has newly been armed with the power of DEO, it is a “matter of pride” as other newly created districts are still not getting these facilities.

Pandey urged the CSOs to fully co-operate with the election officials for smooth, free and fair conduct of elections. He also pointed out the importance of cVigil App with the help of which any person can raise complain vis-à-vis violation of the model code of conduct by uploading geo-tagged photos, videos of up to 10 seconds through the App or dashboard and the problem will be solved within 100 minutes.
