The chief judicial magistrate, Imphal East has taken cognizance of the charge-sheet submitted against four police personnel by Special Investigation Team (SIT) of CBI, New Delhi in connection with an alleged fake encounter case that took place in 2008.
According to reports, one Soram Ranjit Singh, son of S Kamini of Kangpokpi was allegedly killed in the evening of February 15, 2008 at Hatta by a team of police in a fake encounter.

The charge-sheet was filed against the then head constable, Md Shaukat Ali of Sangaiyumpham Part-II, then constables, Thiyam Brojen of Nambol Thiyam leikai, Md Wahajuddin Khan of Lilong and Md Anwar Hussain of Lilong Turel Ahanbi, reports ifp.co.in.
It is the seventh charge-sheet filed by the SIT after it was constituted by the agency in compliance to an order of the Supreme Court issued on July 14 last year to probe into the alleged extra judicial executions numbering 1528 cases perpetrated by the Army, paramilitary and Manipur Police in the State.
The report quoted the charge-sheet filed by CBI that mentioned, “From the materials on records and statement provided by the witnesses and police personnel involved in the incident, it is found clearly that in pursuance to the criminal conspiracy, Soram Ranjit was killed by the said team of police personnel near Minuthong bridge.”

Police personnel involved in the incident were also found in creating false story of encounter with unknown extremists to screen themselves from the offence committed by them as a result the said police personnel are liable for prosecution for the commission of offence under Section 120-B r/w 302 r/w 34 of IPC and substantive offence, the charge-sheet further added.
Meanwhile, the court has directed the four police personnel to appear before the same court on December 21 next.
