Guwahati: The Assam Rifles has apprehended three militants belonging to two different insurgent groups from Tengnoupal district of Manipur bordering Myanmar.

Based on specific intelligence input regarding movement of insurgents along the Indo-Myanmar international border, troops of the Assam Rifles launched an operation in Tengnoupal district’s border pillar (BP) number 86.

During the operation, personnel of the Assam Rifles noticed movement of a group of people along the border.

The ambush party of the paramilitary force acted swiftly and nabbed the three while they were trying to escape.

During questioning, it was revealed that two of them belonged to the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) while the third was a United National Liberation Front-Koireng (UNLF-K) cadre.

The trio was later handed over to the Manipur Police for further legal proceedings.

The Assam Rifles on September 12 this year had nabbed three cadres of the militant outfit People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of Manipur from a forested area of BP number 86 in Tengnoupal district.
