Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles apprehended one alleged narcotics smuggler carrying 1,44,000 WY(World is Yours)tablets and 732 grams brown sugar worth approximately Rs 5.78 crores during a routine checking at permanent vehicle check post located at Khudengthabi, about 90 km south of Manipur’s state capital along the Imphal-Moreh National Highway on Sunday, according to a press release issued by Assam Rifles (South).
Troops of Kudengthabi post based on specific input received from reliable source, smuggling of contraband items, stopped a silver coloured Maruti Omni van (MN04A 8994) travelling from Moreh to Imphal for checking at around 1 pm on Sunday, the release stated.
On carrying out a thorough checking of vehicle, blue coloured packets carrying 1,44,000 tablets and orange coloured powder packets suspected to be brown sugar weighing approximately 732 grams, were found hidden inside charcoal bags kept at the rear of the vehicle.
Thirtyone years old Noor Khan of Urup Awang Leikei, Lilong, under Thoubal district was apprehended while smuggling the narcotics, the release added.
The WY tablets were contained in 720 pouches weighing 15kg (including the plastic) and worth Rs 4.32 crores, while the brown sugar was contained in 54 pouches worth approximately Rs 1.46 crores.
The total worth of the seizure is approximately Rs 5.78 crores, it added. Recovered items along with the apprehendee are being handed over to of DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence), Imphal.
On October 13, 2018 the Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles had seized a huge cache of brown sugar, worth Rs 2.85 crores on Imphal-Moreh National Highway.
