Guwahati: The Assam Rifles has foiled yet another cross-border smuggling attempt along the Indo-Myanmar border at Moreh in Tengnoupal district of Manipur.
During a routine patrol on Saturday, troops of the paramilitary force noticed two to three individuals transferring some items from two vehicles to a nearby store suspiciously, the Assam Rifles said in a press statement on Sunday.

Upon noticing the approaching Assam Rifles team, the suspects fled the scene abandoning their vehicles, it added.

Despite efforts to apprehend them in the crowded market area, the individuals managed to escape, it said.

During thorough inspection of the abandoned vehicles, the troops recovered 115 cases of foreign liquor concealed in sacks, it added.
The contraband item is valued at approximately Rs four lakh in the international market, it said.
The seized liquor along with the two vehicles were later handed over to the customs officials in Moreh for further investigation, the statement further said.
