Assam Rifles destroys three bunkers in Bishnupur.

Imphal: In a wide-ranging measure to ensure the security and well-being of the people, all together, a total of three bunkers earlier occupied by armed miscreants were demolished in three different villages in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, a statement issued by the Assam Rifles PRO said here on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, the troopers of the Assam Rifles launched a special operation with an area domination patrol in the villages of Waroiching, Leimaram, and Irengbam in Bishnupur where they found three bunkers of the miscreants.

Immediately, the Assam Rifles demolished three bunkers on Saturday night, the statement stated.

But no arrest has so far been made.

Destruction of these bunkers has thwarted the nefarious design of inimical elements as these bunkers could have been used by miscreants to disturb law and order in the region.

In the ongoing communal violence, two warring parties — tribals and non-tribals used their hardened shelters, usually (underground) bunkers that protect volunteers and weapons from attacks.

Bunkers can deflect blast waves from explosions to prevent injuries.

In the communal frenzy that started on May 3, 2023, over 230 persons lost their lives.
