Imphal: A total of 21 (Pompi) mortar bombs were among a cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives recovered in an operation conducted in the northern part of Imphal east district during the past 24 hours, an official said on Saturday.

Acting on specific intelligence about the presence of arms and ammunition at an abandoned camp, a team of the central and state forces rushed to an area of Kamu Ching hills of Imphal East district adjoining Kangpokpi district.

The joint team recovered large arms, ammunition, and explosives in the searched and cordoned operation from an abandoned camp earlier occupied by the armed miscreants, the report said.

The operation lasted around three hours, the officials stated.

The team recovered two 40 mm country-made guns, 21 Pompi mortar bombs, 3-feet length (approx.) cortex wire, one kg (approximately) of dynamite gun powder, four nos. of Pompi ammunition round cap holders, 24 empty cases, one battery cell from Kamu Ching, Imphal East District.

However, no arrest has been made.

The retrieved items have been handed over to the concerned police station, the officials added.
