Along with the rest of the country, the 69th Republic Day was also celebrated at Mangaldai District Jail by the jail inmates.
Sat Ram Nath, a life convict and senior-most inmate of the Mangaldai District Jail unfurled the national tri-colour in presence of the Jail Superintendent Ashok Kr Goswami, Jailer Munindra Ch Sarma and other jail officials,
Around 180 jail inmates were present during the Republic Day celebration on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, jail inmate Sat Ram Nath highlighted how India was conquered by the British after becoming victorious at the battle of Palachi in 1757 and the freedom struggle led by the ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Basu and other national leaders.
A group of seven jail inmates also formed an instrumental music band and presented their musical performances to add special flavour to the celebration.
It may be mentioned that apart from the Mangaldai District Jail, the Republic Day was celebrated in different parts of Darrang district.
The Republic Day was celebrated in different offices, schools, colleges and other institutes by hoisting National Flag.
During the R-Day celebrations, the freedom fighters and their sacrifices were recalled.
