Two days after the Maibong incident, two senior ministers of Assam cabinet on Saturday visited the Dima Hasao district to take stock of the situation.

PWD minister Parimal Suklabaidya and Water Resources minister Keshab Mahanta met the family members of the slain youths at Maibang, who were killed in the police firing.

The ministers also held meeting with the officials of civil and police administration and local people at Maibang.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Indigenous Forum Assam led by its convenor Anup Chetia, Karbi Students’ Union

president Samson Teron and AJYCP leaders on Saturday visited Haflong to express their solidarity with the people of Dima Hasao on the Nagalim issue.

Addressing a meeting ULFA leader Chetia said ULFA took up arms to ensure the rights of indigenous people.

He said indigenous people of Assam are facing a bleak future.

However, indigenous people of Dima Hasao are secured due to the 6th schedule of the Constitution, Chetia said.

The members of the various organizations participated in a citizens’ meet at Haflong.

JNH president Kailen Daulagupu resented that in his two years of term as Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal could not find out time for holding a meet with the organizations of the indigenous people of the Dima Hasao district.
