Nagaland government has formed a six-member state level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) on Monday for the by-poll to Nagaland Lok Sabha.  Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Sinha has been appointed as its chairman. One Observer appointed by the ECI has been made the committee’s member.

The by-poll to the seat will be held on May 28 while counting will be done on May 31. The last date for filing nominations has been fixed on May 10 and the date for scrutiny is May 11. The last date for withdrawal of the nomination is April 14.

The committee will decide appeal from both District and Additional CEO Committees on certification of advertisement as per the Commission order No.509/75/2004/JS-i Dated 15th April 2004.

It will also examine all cases of paid news on appeal against the decision of District MCMC or cases that they may take up suo motu, in which case it shall direct the concerned ROs to issue notices to the candidates.

Other members of the committee are Director, Information & Public Relations Limawati Ao, Deputy Director, News, AIR, Kohima, Shahu Patole, senior journalist Xavier Rutsa while Jt. Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland Khegukha Sema is the member secretary of the committee.
