In a tragic incident, a minor boy aged about five years lost his live while six other injured in lightning in two separate places in Kokrajhar and Chirang district of Assam on Friday.
As Regional Metrological Centre (RMC) predicted strong wind of velocity of 50 km/h and rain in lower Assam districts and alerted by the district administrations, the weather in lower Assam districts were violent as predicted.
Lightning occurred in various places since Thursday with strong wind in the district that killed a minor boy at Laokriguri village under Serfanguri police station injuring three others while another three persons sustained injuries at Middle Salbari under Runikhata police station in Chirang district on Thursday evening.
Sources said a minor boy Jwngsar Narzary (5) of village Laokriguri, Serfanguri, reading in class-I at UN Academy, Ramfalbil died when lightning hit him and another three persons also received injuries. The injured persons including another minor student were immediately brought to Kokrajhar RN Brahma Civil Hospital for treatment where Jwngsar was declared brought dead.
Talking to reporters, Lojen Narzary, father of Jwngsar said his son along with his class mate Danswrang Basumatary (5) of the same village were being taught by a private tutor while lightning struck them at 7:30 am. Tutor Ms Romaina Basumatary (13), Danswrang Basumatary (5) and grand-mother of Jwngsar – Parbati Narzary (45) received injuries.
On the other hand, three persons namely – Rabiram Brahma (26), Gala Mashahary (29) and Ajay Limbu (22) of Middle Salbari village under Runikhata police station in Chirang district were injured while lightning hit them at around 2:30 pm on Thursday.
Sources said they were sitting inside the varandah along with six other fellow men due to bad weather after incising bamboo when the lightning struck them.
