All the Left parties including CPI (M) staged a demonstration outside Parliament and organized protest rallies in different parts of Tripura on Tuesday to protest against the ‘murder of democracy in West Bengal and Tripura’.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, senior Left leaders from West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala and MPs of Left parties among other leaders participated in the protest demonstration.
In Agartala, a mammoth rally of CPI(M) workers and leaders led by CPI(M) state secretary Bijan Dhar was taken out from Melarmath area of Agartala on Tuesday afternoon and passed through various thoroughfares of Agartala protesting the ‘murder of democracy in West Bengal and Tripura’.
Similar protest rallies, demonstrations and meetings were also organized in many parts of Tripura.
“Democracy and people’s rights have been totally devastated in West Bengal and Tripura. Total lawlessness prevails in these two states. Ruling party supporters and a section of leaders are directly involved in attacks on offices and houses belonging to opposition parties,” said Dhar.
Dhar further added that after the BJP-led alliance government came to power in Tripura in March, four CPI (M) members and leaders have been brutally murdered.
Thousands of party members and supporters were attacked; around 750 offices of the CPI (M) and its trade unions have been burnt, attacked or captured, he said.
