The murder of a woman from Lakhimpur in Arunachal Pradesh has created tension here as a student organization is demanding compensation from the authorities from the neighbouring state.

Ayesha Khatun (45) who hailed from Borchola at Nowboicha in Lakhimpur district was hacked to death by three assailants on Wednesday night at Papu Basti at Naharlagan in Arunachal Pradesh. Her husband, Ramzan Ali (55) was seriously injured in the incident at their hut in a paddy field.

The couple has been living there for last twenty years working as agriculture labourers. The news of the murder sent shock waves in the native village of the victim since Thursday.

The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) has raised the issue with the district authorities in North Lakhimpur demanding immediate arrest of the culprits by the Arunachal Pradesh police and an ex-gratia compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the next of the kin of the murdered woman.

According to an AAMSU leader, the Arunachal Pradesh police have identified the three assailants though no arrests have been made so far. The AAMSU has announced to impose an economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh if their demands are not fulfilled by the Arunachal Pradesh authorities.
