Ashish Mishra, son of Union MoS Home Ajay Mishra,  who was arrested on charges of running over SUV over protesting farmers, was sent to 3-day police on Monday.

The special investigation team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh police has sought 14-day custody but the court granted three-day police remand.

The police had filed an application before a local court that ordered the remand.

Mishra was arrested at 10.50 pm on Saturday and sent to the Lakhimpur jail around 1 am on Sunday after 12 hours of questioning.

According to a senior official in the investigation team, Ashish Mishra was not able to explain his location between 2.30 p.m and 3.30 p.m. on October 3 when the incident took place.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which is spearheading the agitation against the Centre’s three farm laws, had alleged that the violence was held under a pre-planned conspiracy and demanded the arrest of the minister and his son.

The farmer unions said if the government does not accept their demands by October 11, they will take out a ‘Shaheed Kisan Yatra’ from Lakhimpur Kheri with the ashes of slain farmers.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra & other party leaders observed ‘maun vrat’ at Gandhi statue at GPO, Lucknow, demanding the dismissal of junior home minister Ajay Kumar Mishra.
