Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday inaugurated a World War II Memorial Museum at Jairampur in Changlang district.

The inaugural ceremony of the museum was also attended by Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister Honchun Ngandam, State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Tapir Gao, Parliamentary Secretaries Laisam Simai, Tesam Pongte, Tage Taki and Kanubari MLA Gabriel Wangsu.

As per information, the museum has been built through funding from the Union Ministry of Culture with an investment of Rs 2.25 crore.

The project has been executed by the Public Works Department (PWD).

The Arunachal Chief Minister visited the war memorial where remnants of the World War II, personal belongings of the soldiers and other persons involved have been preserved after collecting the same from the locals and various other sources.

The museum has also showcased traditional items from the Tangsa community.

Chief Minister Khandu was informed that about 833 graves including mass graves have been discovered in the area.

Also, the graves include people who were involved in manual work in the construction of the famous Stilwell Road.

Troops of Assam Rifles first spotted the cemetery in 1997, according to the museum officials at Jairampur.

The Chief Minister in his interaction with local leaders and officials said that the cemetery has great potential to attract tourists if developed properly.

He assured of support from the State government for preservation and promotion of the war cemetery.

Chief Minister Khandu later took a walk around the war cemetery where there are hundreds of graves.
