At a time when the Assam Agricultural University (AAU) authorities held the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responsible for the destruction of the College of Veterinary Science playground at Khanapara here in an RTI reply, the general secretary of the students’ union of the College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, expressed a completely opposite view.
The general secretary of the students’ union of College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, Rupjyoti Dutta, while downplaying the issue of the playground destruction, told Northeast Now on Monday, “Various programmes of the College of Veterinary Science are also organized in the playground and the field gets slightly damaged during those programmes also,” adding, “It is very natural that the playground is damaged in some ways while organizing other programmes.”

It is to be noted that this view of Rupjyoti Dutta is also just opposite the views expressed by Ranji players, sports organizers and leaders of various other organizations of the State regarding the playground.
It may be mentioned that in its RTI reply, the AAU authorities had claimed held the BJP and Kamrup (Metro) district administration responsible for destruction of the playground of the College of Veterinary Science at Khanapara in Guwahati. It also claimed that the BJP had undertaken the earth-filling works on the twin cricket pitch in May 2017 in connection with the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the celebrations of completion of three years of NDA government at Centre and one year of the BJP-led Government in Assam. Ranjeet Neog, Associate Director of Students Welfare (ADSW) of the AAU, in the RTI reply said, “No official of AAU authorised any organisation to demolish the walls and no organisation paid any compensation to AAU.”

After a series of detailed reports published in Northeast Now regarding the issue of the destruction of such a huge playground equipped with modern facilities for activities having no connection with sports, a section of Ranji players, sports organizers, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and the Congress have already expressed their concern.
It seems, with his view, the students’ union general secretary of College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, Rupjyoti Dutta has proved the claim of the AAU authority as ‘false’. However, the students’ leader of the college, told Northeast Now that as he has taken charge recently, he would be able to speak properly only after understanding the issue in details.
The ignorance of Rupjyoti Dutta, regarding the college’s playground, which has been identified as one of the best sports complexes in Guwahati, despite being in the post of the general secretary of the college’s students’ body, has shocked everyone.
Rupjyoti Dutta also said he would have a discussion with the AAU authority regarding the information provided in the RTI reply over the playground and then the students’ union of the college would take steps.
