A  month-long Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) programme conducted by the Department of Extension Education, Veterinary Science College, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara concluded on March 30.

A treatment cum vaccination camp at Alenga, Domora Pathar and Borkuchi village in Dimoria Development Block of Kamrup district was conducted on the concluding day.

28 teachers,  93 UG students and 13 PG students under the leadership of Dr. A. Borgohain,  Professor and Head, Extension Education Department participated in the camp.

A total of 612 cattle were vaccinated against Foot and Mouth disease. Moreover, 1702 other livestock and poultry birds were also treated for different ailments.

A Farmers-Scientists Interaction Session was also organized on the last day in the Alenga LP School in the presence of Dr RN Goswami, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science, AAU, Khanapara and was attended by farmers of the locality, the village headmen and members of Netaji Yuvak Sangha.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr RN Goswami, Dean (Vety), AAU apprised the farmers about the efforts of the College of Veterinary Science and Assam Agricultural University in sensitizing farmers on adoption of scientific knowledge and technologies, and in technology transfer. He expressed his gratitude to the villagers for their cooperation and support extended to the students in the month-long programme.

Several officials of the Department of Veternary Science, Assam Government Dr. Paresh Sarma, Joint Director, Institute of Veterinary Biologicals, Dr Devanand Adhikari, Research Officer, Co-ordinated Poultry Breeding Project, Dr Ajitav Kakoti, Deputy Director, ICDP and Dr. Abhay Sarma, Veterinary Officer of Nortap Veterinary Dispensary attended the programme.

The Department also provided support to the programme by providing materials in the form of medicine and vaccine.
