Union Minister Nitin Gadkari with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Kaziranga National Park.

Kaziranga National Park (KNP) has found the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, Nitin Gadkari and his family members as “tourists” on the New Year’s Eve on Sunday.

Despite ill health, Gadkari flew to the national park in a helicopter on December 29 afternoon and preferred to make the right mix of work and pleasure during his stay in the world’s heritage site, which is to   famous one-horned rhinos.

The union minister had complained of uneasiness during a public meeting on December 29 in Majuli, the world’s largest river island. Instead of flying back to New Delhi for medical check-up, he preferred to stay in Kaziranga National Park and spend the time with his family members.

During the last two days, Gadkari and his family stayed at Borgos, a picturesque resort close to the Kohora range, and enjoyed the finest Assamese gastronomic delights. Even chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal was present the first evening when a colourful cultural programme was showcased for the union minister and his family members.

The union road transport and highways minister had the time to explore the wild habitat on elephant back and also undertook jeep safari to get a glimpse of the huge treasure of wild flora and fauna.

Gadkari also held a series of meetings with government officials of different states of the northeast, and even addressed a press conference on Saturday. According to officials, Gadkari and his family members will enjoy the New Year eve in the wild habitat and proceed to New Delhi on Monday.
