The Kamrup (Metro) District Administration has directed all departments to undertake civic works for beautification of Guwahati. This order comes in the wake of the Global Investors Summit to be held in the city on February 3-4.

All departments have been directed to finish their assigned tasks by January 25, said Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamuthu.

Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), PWD (National Highway), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), PWD (Guwahati Roads Division) and APDCL will be the executing agencies entrusted with cleaning and beautification of all the medians of National Highway-37 and for landscaping and road furbishing from the LGBI Airport to Jalukbari rotary point, besides installation of bamboo barricades on both sides of NH-37 from LGBI Airport to Khanapara.

The agencies will also be responsible for removal of garbage, silt and other dumped material from NH-37 and art work of the Borjhar flyover and Jalukbari rotary point, illumination with LED ornamental lights of all the streetlights, along with replacement of non-functional streetlights from LGBI Airport to Khanapara via Jalukbari.

The City Police and the DTO have been directed to prepare a traffic plan for the event. This is make travelling hassle-free and to ensure that parking of vehicles, trucks and cabs are not allowed in service lanes of NH-37.

The Forest Department, SDRF and APCDL have been directed to undertake pruning of trees from the riverbank and NH-37. PWD (Roads) has been entrusted with repairing all major arterial roads around Guwahati

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has been directed to remove all unauthorized hoardings, banners and posters from footpaths, along with removal of all encroachments, including footpath vendors from RG Baruah Road, GS Road, Ulubari and AT Road.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will be in charge of maintenance and cleanliness of the entire LGBI Airport complex, including arrival and departure areas, parking areas.

The Deputy Commissioner said that all flyovers in and around Guwahati are to be painted, illuminated and decorated in the run-up to the summit.
