Juvenile held for ‘offensive’ Facebook posts against Assam police

Mangaldai police on Sunday arrested a juvenile from No 2 Bamunpara village here for allegedly posting comments on Facebook supporting ULFA (I) militants and making offensive comments against Assam police.

Police officials said the juvenile made the offensive remarks on the wall of his Facebook account following the death of police official Bhaskar Kalita on Friday in an encounter with ULFA (I) militants at Bordumsa in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.

According to Darrang SP Sreejith T, police also seized an air pistol and a couple of its pellets from the house of the minor. The juvenile, a school dropout, belongs to a family from Bamunpara village here.

Police raided his house on Sunday after the alleged remarks were posted on the Facebook. The phone that he used for logging on Facebook and YouTube has also been seized.

A case (no 336/18) under section 121 of IPC and R/W 67 IT ACT, R/W 28 Arms Act has been registered against the juvenile.  He is being interrogated at Mangaldai police station, the SP added.
