President Ram Nath Kovind, after series of consultations with the Chief Justice of India, has appointed Justice Tarun Agarwala as the new Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Tuesday.

Justice Agarwala, a former Judge of Allahabad High Court is expected to assume office as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, former Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.

Justice Maheshwari has been directed to assume office on or before February 20, 2018.

Justice Agarwala who hails from Allahabad, graduated in law from the University of Allahabad and enrolled as an advocate on December 9, 1981.

The recommendation of the shuffle made by the collegium on the appointment of Justice Agarwala as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya and Dinesh Maheshwari as the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court earlier this year was given a nod of approval by the President.
