The students of Sports Authority of India (SAI) Special Area Games Centre, Kanthalguri in Kokrajhar on Monday gathered at the SAI complex in the morning and expressed their best wishes for archer Pramila Daimary for her triumph in the Asian Games to be held from August 18 to September 2 at Jakarta in Indonesia.
The elated students chanted slogans for Daimary for achieving gold medal in the Games.
The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) EM of Sports and Youth Welfare, Doneswar Goyary also joined the SAI students and hoped that Daimary would clinch gold in the Asian Games at Jakarta.
Goyary said the BTC Sports Department has been giving all privileges for the players and achievers in the national and international arena and the council pays respect to those players who bring laurels for the Council, State as well as the nation.
He said his department continues to extend support to all sports achievers and Pramila Daimary was also given the same support.
Goyary said there had been some allegations that the Council often fails to provide due attention and facilities to the international achievers, but “this is completely false and baseless”.
The Director (In-charge) of Kokrajhar SAI, Pradip Brahma, said, “As many as six players from Assam have been selected for Asian Games at Jakarta in Indonesia in different events. They are Pramila Daimary (archer), Hima Das (athlete), Shiva Thapa (boxer), Rodali Baruah (taekwondo), Wasmita Chaliha (badminton) and Kabita Debi (taekwondo).”
He said the players would leave for Indonesia on Tuesday to participate in the Asian Games.
