Voting in the first phase  panchayat polls in the district passed off peacefully with no untoward incident being reported.  Last night, however,  there were reports that BJP member Aiseng Handique of Lahdoigarh outskirts here was attacked by two persons,  Dipak Handique and Tultul Hati Baruah and had to be rushed to AMCH,  Dibrugarh for treatment. Tultul reportedly was the son of a local Congress leader Dilip Hatibaruah, who was a former GP president.

An FIR was also lodged in this connection .

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Narayan Konwar  said that the polling percentage may increase as counting was still on and they were awaiting the return of  polling officials from all polling stations to the district headquarters of Jorhat district and Titabar sub-division.

There are 609 polling stations under Jorhat  Sadar sub-division while there are 347 polling stations under Titabar sub-division.

Konwar further said that a report from Titabar sub-divisional administration had stated that voters of the polling station, Kharikatia LP School under Dakhin Katani Bagisa Gaon Panchayat,  reportedly abstained from casting their votes after a section of the local residents allegedly found their names missing in the voters’ list.
