Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Revenue, Weight and Measures, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, Karam Shyam, said that freedom fighter and social activist Jananeta Hijam Irabot’s outstanding contribution towards serving Manipur during his entire lifespan is limitless and he is at par with any of the prominent freedom fighters of the country.
Shyam was speaking as chief guest at the Irabot Day Celebration – 2018 organised by the Manipur Kala Kristi Kendra at No 1 Pipal Pukhuri Lanka, Hojai district, Assam on Sunday. Minister Karam Shyam also unveiled the statue of Jananeta Hijam Irabot that was erected at the complex of the Manipur Kala Kristi Kendra.

Speaking at the 122nd birth anniversary of Jananeta Irabot (Irabot Day), the minister stated that Irabot has imbibed since birth a true spirit of sacrifice that is one of the most important qualities of a leader. A leader endowed with multi-faceted personality and great credibility, Irabot had served the poor and needy people of those days, he said. He is not below any of the leaders of the globe considering his contribution towards the upliftment of the society and cause of humanity. He had contributed profoundly in varied fields ranging from sports, writing, drama, revolutionary to social transformation, he added.
He turned a revolutionary and carried out armed struggle against the British rule and laid his life at the Anggo Hills, the then Burma, he recollected. “Irabot’s remarkable activities of supreme sacrifice for the cause of Manipur are indeed worth appreciating and I feel a sense of success and satisfaction in inaugurating the statue of Jananeta Irabot today,” the minister said.
A souvenir titled Lamyanba was also released during the function. Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs)
Th Satyabrata(Yaiskul) and H Dingo (Sekmai) also attended the function.
