Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday said that India-Bangladesh border will be sealed by this year.
“The India-Bangladesh border will be sealed by 2018,” said Chief Minister Sonowal after his meeting with Union Homer Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.

Sonowal discussed in detail about the border fencing issue as well as the National Register of Citizens (NRC) update issue with Union Home Minister Singh. Sonowal also briefed the Union Home Minister about the present situation in Assam following the publication of the first draft of the NRC.
The discussion which took place at the official residence of Union Home Minister Singh also took note on the unprecedented cooperation and support that the Governments received from all sections of the people of the society and sought the same cooperation in the NRC update process in the future.
The Chief Minister landed in the national capital on Monday and held several meetings throughout the day on Tuesday.

Sonowal also raised the issue of infrastructure development along the Indo-Bhutan area. It may be mentioned that infrastructure development along the border areas has remained a major concern for the BJP Government.
The CM also called on Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely on Tuesday. Sonowal who met Jaitely in the latter’s office at North Block, apprised him of the steps taken by the State Government for the success of the forthcoming Global Investors’ Summit on February 3 and 4 respectively. He also invited Union Minister Jaitley to the Summit.
“We specially discussed about the employability issue for the youths of Assam,” said Sonowal.
