The District Sports Offices (DSOs) of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri districts in Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) have decided to organise indigenous/traditional sports festival in association with the Bodoland Indigenous Games Association (BIGA) in their respective districts on April 6 with a day-long programme.

DSO, Kokrajhar, Jajnabati Basumatary, who is also the Council Head of the Department (CHD), Sports and Youth Welfare, BTC, said as per the directive of the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam, the four BTC districts have decided to organize the indigenous sports festival in their respective districts on April 6 to preserve and promote traditional games in Assam.

Basumatary said the respective district officers will organize the traditional game festival involving the respective DCs, local MLAs or Ministers to focus on the traditional games among the people and will also organize seminars on the importance of indigenous games.

The Sub-Divisional Sports Officer, Kokrajhar, Pradip Kr Narzary, informed that the DSO, Kokrajhar has fixed the date for traditional sports festival on April 6 at Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) field where five different indigenous game events would be held as per order of the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam.

Narzary said the Executive Member of Sports and Youth Welfare, BTC, Doneswar Goyary has given his consent to be the Chief Guest while the DC and SP of the district have also been invited to the event. He also said the festival would be organized in association with the BIGA, Kokrajhar.

The Assistant Sub-divisional Sports Officer, Chirang Guno Shangkar Wary said Chirang district has also fixed April 6 as the date for indigenous game festival in Chirang while DSO, Baksa district, Naba Kr Basumatary informed that the district has already decided to organize the festival on the same date at Mushalpur. Similarly, reports from Udalguri said they have also decided to organize the traditional sports festival on April 6 in Udalguri.
