The Indian Weavers’ Alliance (IWA) has opened its first retail store in Guwahati which deals with fashion products made by the local artisans of Assam. The retail store was inaugurated on April 2 at Roodraksh Mall, Guwahati
These fashionable products are 100 per cent handloom and made from natural fibre.
Eminent personalities of the fashion industry like Vikram Rai Medhi, Adityam Saikia, Medha Saikia and the finalists of Mega Miss Assam 2018 were present at the inauguration.
Lifestyle grooming expert Meghali Das and Fashion Photographers Pranjal Pratim and Kunal Lakhani were also present.
Indian Weavers’ Alliance, describes itself as not just a textile company but a movement, which aims to showcase to the masses that ‘handloom is as fashionable as you’. The company’s office is located in Uzanbazar, Guwahati.
Members of the IWA directly deal with the weavers, without the interference of any middlemen and thus increasing the payroll of the actual workers.
Saumar J. Sharma, CEO of Indian Weavers’ Alliance believes that if the economic conditions of our weavers can be improved, they are capable of doing more work.
