Incessant rains since the last two days have affected the normal life of the people in the Dima Hasao district with the Haflong-Silchar National Highway being inundated by rain waters.
The incessant rains have affected the road communication of Haflong in Dima Hasao district with many other parts of Assam.
Locals alleged that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has not given any importance to repair or reconstruct the road.
The road condition has become worst due to the uninterrupted rains for the past few days.
Though the 25 km long Jatinga-Harangajao area of the Haflong-Silchar National Highway is under the NHAI, locals alleged that the authority has failed to reconstruct the road.
According to information, the highway expansion project in the Barak Valley was given to Silchar’s Lakshmi Motors Construction Company in December, 2017.
But the company did not do for the development of the road. Eventually, the travellers along with the locals have been suffering till date.
Due to no proper drainage system, the road becomes inundated and muddy in just a half-an-hour of downpour.
Meanwhile, rainfalls over the past two days have also created trouble in the communication through Assam-Agartala National Highway.
“Vehicular traffic has been disrupted in both the ways with no vehicles from the either ways were unable to cross the roads. Landslides have also been reported from Atharamura, Chakmaghat and other areas in Tripura. Uprooted trees due to rains have also blocked the roads in Tripura,” said sources.
Normal life has been affected across Tripura where a number of villages and towns have reportedly been cut off from the district headquarters as the swollen river waters have inundated several roads.
