Illicit liquor worth Rs 4.1 lakh destroyed in Manipur.

Imphal: A huge amount of seized Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and fiery locally-made distilled liquor was destroyed in a pyre at the premises of the Sapormeina Excise Station in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, a report said on Friday.

A total of 3,579 litres of Distilled Indigenous Country (DIC) liquor and 99.17 litres of IMFL worth approximately Rs. 4,11,302 in the local black markets were confiscated from different areas of Manipur’s Kangpokpi district from January to April this year, reports said.

As part of the drive in connection with the 18th Lok Sabha Election in 2024, a special enforcement squad comprising officials from Excise, Police, and other law enforcement groups operating in this sensitive border state conducted a joint operation against the illicit liquor business and consumption.

Hundreds of bottles and several plastic bags containing the DIC and IMFL liquors were destroyed in fire recently at the premises of the Sapormeina Excise Station Kangpokpi, the report added.

The illicit items were confiscated under the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 under section 69 and destroyed in the pyre under the directive of the State Excise Commissioner and these items were confiscated from various places and users under the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 under section 69, the report added.
