The district administration of Dhubri in Assam busted an illegal gambling den at ward No 1 of Dhubri town on Friday and arrested two persons.
This was informed by Bistirna Barua, Election officer cum Executive Magistrate of Dhubri who was leading the operation.

Acting on a tip off, the Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri Ananta Lal Gyani directed the concerned Executive Magistrate of Dhubri to conduct a raid immediately in Gadadhar Club located behind the Congress office of Dhubri town and busted the illegal gambling den being run by the members of the club since long time.
Barua, who was leading the operation said that there were nearly seven to eight persons who were playing the gambling by locking the main door of the club and as soon as they heard about the raid, six of them managed to flee from the spot by using underground way prepared for the purpose.
The two arrested members of the club, identified as Hakim Ali and Anowar Hussain, have been taken into custody by the team of district authorities.

A large numbers of chips (chips used in place of cash) were recovered from the spot.
In this connection, a case has been registered against the club, Barua added.
Meanwhile, the district administration has sealed the club premises.
Notably, a month ago, District Magistrate Ananta Lal Gyani had carried out a similar operation in Boy’s Club of Dhubri town and sealed the club besides arresting five people involved in gambling racket.
