Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Friday cancelled his upcoming visit to Sikkim later next month.
The abrupt decision comes after the spiritual leader’s doctors advised him to cut down on his tours and travels in view of his advancing age.
Samten Dolma, Ecclesiastical Affairs Secretary of Sikkim received a mail from Tenzin Taklha, secretary at the office of the Dalai Lama saying that the spiritual leader would not be able to undertake his upcoming tour of the Himalayan state from March 20 to 29.
The doctors have advised the spiritual leader to cut down on his tours and travels due to his advancing age and the extreme exertion it causes on his health, Dolma explained.
The tour would have taken a serious toll on the precarious health of the spiritual leader, as according to doctors, he is already showing signs of exhaustion, Dolma added.
The 82 year old Buddhist spiritual leader returned to Dharamshala after a two-month tour of various parts of the country.
