Imphal: Unknown miscreants planted an improvised explosive device (IED) near the doorstep of a shop at the Singjamei Makha Mayengbam Leikai under the Singjamei Police station in Imphal West district on the National Highway 102 on Tuesday night, officials said on Wednesday.
Based on receiving a piece of information on WhatsApp regarding the bomb threat from the Singjamei police station, the Manipur police bomb detection and disposal squad rushed to the spot at around 11:55 pm on Tuesday.

The bomb expert team detected the explosive from the shop belonging to businessman Sapam Romi and defused it without causing any harm at around 1 am on Wednesday, the police said.
No group or individual claims responsibility for the action so far.
In response, a large number of people mostly Meira Paibi women of the Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, Imphal on Wednesday staged a sit-in protesting against the bomb threat to the business establishment.

The festoon at the sit-in protest site, reads, “We condemn the bomb planted at the crowded areas,” and “We demand immediate clarification regarding the cause of the bomb placed at the shop.”
Police, however, said that a case in this regard has been registered.
