Nagaland Governor PB Acharya has directed the Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship of the State to identify the skilled labour requirements in Nagaland and train the youths accordingly so that they can be employed within the State.
Nagaland Governor Acharya issued the directive during a meeting with the officials of Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship at the Raj Bhavan, Kohima on Monday, an official release said on Tuesday.

Expressing his concern over the unemployment issue of the State, Acharya said that unemployment is one of the major problems faced by the State and therefore he urged the department officials to focus on training the youths to make them employable for the development of the State.
The Governor also suggested the department officials to coordinate with the authorities of the universities and colleges in Nagaland to introduce skill development courses in the VI Semester, which, according to him, will prove beneficial for jobs, self-employment and empowerment of the students.
On the other hand, officials of the Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship briefed the State Governor on the skill development activities undertaken by the department.

The officials also apprised Governor Acharya that Nagaland has eight Industrial Training Institutes which have been training youths in 21 trades. The department officials also informed the Governor that various programmes and trainings such as apprenticeship training programme, job mela, job & career fair, etc., are being organised in the State to felicitate the youths.
The officials also mentioned that the year 2016-17 was declared as the ‘Year of Construction Workers’ by the Government of Nagaland and under this initiative, skills of 550 existing construction workers in the State were upgraded.
