Bajaj Chetak, the most loved Indian scooter, is set to make a comeback but not as an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle but as a fully electric scooter.
Bajaj Auto in October 2019 revealed the sale of the brand new fully electric scooter will start from January 2020 and it will be launched in India on January 14.
The electric scooter will initially be available only in Pune its price will be around Rs 1 lakh.
“The scooter will be available in other cities gradually,” Bajaj Auto officials said.
This new electric version of the iconic Bajaj Chetak scooter will feature a variety of design and styling elements borrowed from the old model.
“It will have the neo-retro design, complemented by a broad front apron, well-formed side panels, and tall rearview mirrors,” the officials further added.
“There’s also the horseshoe-shaped LED headlamp cluster, alloy wheels on either end, sequential-scrolling LED blinkers, and LED tail lights,” they added.
“It will get a TFT coloured screen for the instrument panel along with features and functionalities such as smartphone connectivity for data communication, user authentication, etc,” they added.
“There is also a dedicated Bajaj Chetak mobile app which gives the rider access to a wide range of information such as ride history, battery range, etc,” they said.
Bajaj Chetak electric scooter will make use of a 4 kW electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.
The company further claims that the scooter’s range is 85 km in Sport mode and 95 km in Eco mode.
The scooter will not be equipped for DC fast-charging and it will get just an in-built charger.
“Used with a 5-ampere home power outlet, it will take five hours to completely charge the scooter’s battery,” officials said.
