The Lepchas of West Bengal, under Shezoom, the umbrella organization, took out a huge rally in Kalimpong on Sunday to support chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s stand against NRC.
The organization has also decided to call for an all-community/boards solidarity march with CM’s stand on NRC on December 1 next.

Along with it, Shezoom will start a mass signature campaign against NRC across the hill districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
The rally culminated into a huge public meeting at Mela Ground, Kalimpong where senior representatives of Shezoom highlighted how the community was apolitical and would continue to remain so.

They also said they would stand with chief minister Mamata Banerjee – Kingchoom Daarmit (title bestowed by the Lepchas) through thick and thin.
They also pointed out that they were still awaiting their demands of a statutory body for the development of the Lepcha community and that the State Government should pay heed to it as early as possible.
The West Bengal government created the Mayel Lyang Lepcha Development Board in 2013.
