Cache of arms, ammunition and explosives seized in Manipur-Myanmar border.

Imphal: Amid the first phase of elections of the two Manipur Parliamentary constituencies that went on Friday (April 19, Assam Rifles (AR) launched combing operations along the porous border areas of Manipur’s Chandel and Churachandpur districts resulting recovery of huge weapons including explosives, officials said.

Acting on specific intelligence of the presence of arms and ammunition in the area between Halpi and Saiphai, Chandel District (Manipur) sharing a border with Myanmar, the AR launched a search operation and recovered one AK-47 Rifle, two locally made mortar and war-like stores.

In the general area of Samulamlan, in Churachandpur District (Manipur) bordering Myanmar, AR along with a team of Manipur Police carried out a joint cordon and search operation on 17 April 2024 and recovered three Single Barrel 12 mm Bore Rifles, one 9 mm Carbine Machine Gun with the magazine, one Tear Gas Gun, one Lathode Gun, ammunition and war like stores.

In a similar intelligence-based joint operation, in the general area, M Phaimol in Churachandpur District, the AR, and Manipur Police recovered one .303 Rifle, four 12 mm Single Barrel Rifles, two Improvised Heavy Mortars, ammunition, and other war-like stores.

The seized items have been handed over to Manipur Police.

On Friday, the Chandel and Churachandpur districts went to the polls for the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat reserved for scheduled tribes.

Four candidates were in the battle of ballots.
