The homecoming ceremony of the Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic) cadres will be held on April 13 at the Mizoram Police elite Centre Training Institute at Sesawng village, which is about 40 kilometers from Aizawl, additional secretary for home Lalbiakzama said.

“103 HPC (D) militants are on their way to Sakawrdai village from Manipur-Mizoram border village of Zilthawchhuah near Tuiruang River. They will camp at Sakawrdai from where they will proceed to Sesawng, the venue for arms laying down ceremony,” Lalbiakzama said.

Official sources said 46 arms and hundreds rounds of ammunition would be laid down on April 13.

“46 arms including sophisticated sniper rifles, AK47s, M16s and 9mm automatic pistols will be surrendered, the home department has calculated the value of the arms to be well over Rs. 8 lakh,” David Lalthangliana, officer on special duty to home department, said.

The ceremony was first slated for April 12 but has to be postponed a day.

“Home minister R Lalzirliana has expressed his desire to attend the homecoming of the militants, he is presently undergoing medical treatment in New Delhi and we hoped that he could make it on the 13th,” David Lalthangliana added.

The Mizoram government and the HPC (D) had signed a Memorandum of Settlement on April 2 in an attempt to bring amicable and lasting solution to the Hmar imbroglio.
