All India Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev on Sunday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government has failed to ensure security to women across India and claimed that most of the rape cases taking place across the country have been reported from States ruled by the saffron party.
Coming down heavily on the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, the Women Congress chief who is also the Lok Sabha MP from Assam’s Silchar constituency Dev told media persons here, “Highest rates of rape cases have been reported from the BJP-ruled States. While in Haryana 6 rape cases took place within a span of 10 hours, Prime Minister Modi didn’t as much as comment on it.”
She also claimed that the Madhya Pradesh has reported the highest rate of rapes in the country, but the PM is silent in this regard. She also asserted that the PM has never commented about the rape cases in BJP-ruled Rajasthan, where the “rate of rape is also one of the highest”.
She further alleged that the BJP government is not serious about the increase in the crimes against women all over India. “The BJP government is not at all serious about the security of women,” she said.
Dev made brought these allegations in response to Union Minister Smriti Irani who raised the infamous sex scandal of a minor at a guest house run by Meghalaya Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh’s son Nathaniel Osbert Rymmai, during her campaigned in poll-bound Meghalaya on Saturday.
“I am surprised to see that a central minister (Irani) while visiting Meghalaya highlighted the rape of a girl in Meghalaya. I would like to ask her that the ‘Biggest Sex Scandal’, in the history of India has happened in Gujarat’s Kutch,” added Dev.
