A pall of gloom descended on Dohakaunia village under Barama police station in lower Assam’s Nalbari district, the native of CRPF ASI Nirod Sarma, who was killed in terrorist attack at Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Wednesday.
Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at the house of the slain CRPF ASI where the grief-stricken relatives, including his wife and two children, were wailing at his untimely demise. His friends and relatives recalled him as a tenacious man.
Sarma was among the five CRPF jawans martyred on Wednesday when terrorists carried out an attack on a busy road in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.
According to officials, at least two terrorists attacked a patrol party of the CRPF on the busy KP Road in Anantnag with automatic rifles followed by hurling of grenades. While one of the terrorists was gunned down by security forces, other one is believed to have escaped.
Staving off tears, his family recalled the sheer determination of Sarma, who joined CRPF in 1991. He had been serving in CRPF for last 27 years and currently was posted as ASI to 116 battalion of the CRPF in J&K.
He married Jonali Sarma from nearby Sialmari village in 2014 and they have two children–Dikshita, 14, and Himangi, 12.
