Former Congress Minister Ardhendu Kumar Dey was summoned by Hojai Police on Thursday in connection with his hate speech which he had delivered recently.
As per information, the Hojai Police taking suo moto cognizance of a hate speech allegedly delivered by Dr Dey, on Wednesday summoned him to appear before police, following which the senior Congress leader reported to Hojai Police on Thursday at 10:30 am along with a hundred of his supporters.

Dr Dey, who is also the President of Assam Nagorik Mancha, allegedly delivered a hate speech during a public meeting in Hojai on Tuesday.
Talking to media persons before he was quizzed by police on Thursday, Dr Dey denied all allegations against him and said, “The allegations are all false and there is no truth in it.”
He asserted, “I had not spoken anything communal. This allegation has been falsely projected against me.”

After two hours of interrogation by high-level police officials at 12:30 PM, Dr Dey once again spoke to the media.
He said, “I have replied to all the questions of the police. I told them that I had said nothing communal. All the allegations are baseless and falsely presented.”
Dr Dey once again reiterated, “From the beginning, I have been supporting and demanding for constitutional safeguard of the citizens as per the 2014 voters’ list and provide citizenship to the citizens on the basis of the 2014 voters’ list.”
He also added, “Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was also in support of me and it was also produced before the State Cabinet headed by Gogoi during Congress regime.”
Hojai Additional Superintendent of Police, Ajagwran Basumatary along with Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bhanita Nath said, “Dr Dey was summoned to be present on Thursday. A case (no 321/18) has been lodged under Section153A/34 against him in connection with his alleged communal speech before public on Tuesday.”
The police officials also said, “He (Dey) has answered to all the questions we asked and if needed, he will be quizzed again and inquiry will continue till the matter is not solved.”
On the other hand, the All Assam Students’ Union’s leader Bhaskar Saika said, “For years all the sections of people in Assam have been residing maintaining peace and harmony. But communal speech of this type is very disturbing for the social fabric of Assam.”
