A suspected hardcore militant belonging to the NSCN (IM) was allegedly killed during an encounter with security forces in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday morning.
Police sources claimed that on getting specific information about the movement of some militants belonging to the NSC (IM) near Longkai village, the Khonsa battalion of the Assam Rifles launched an operation.

In the encounter that followed, one of the militants was killed, while others managed to flee from the spot taking advantage of the adverse terrain.
Later the body of the slain militant was handed over to the police.
He has been identified as a ‘captain’ of the NSCN (IM).

The security personnel team also recovered two AK-56 rifles and a large quantity of ammunition from the site of the encounter, police sources further said.
Meanwhile, the security forces have launched a massive search operation in search of the other militants in the entire area.
In another operation, the Khonsa battalion apprehended a member of the NSCN (Khaplang) from Chasa village in Tirap district on Thursday morning, police sources added.
Three pistols, some ammunition, opium and cash were seized from his possession.
