Sikh Community distributes blankets to Guwahati’s needy

Members of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Fancy Bazar distributed around 700 blankets to the needy in Guwahati on Saturday. They distribution of blankets was to mark the 351st anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.

The president of the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Sardar Major Singh took the initiative, collected the funds from Sikh Sangat of Guwahati while funds from Gurdwara were also pooled in.

The members of the Sikh community started a drive on January 5, where they distributed blankets to the residents of Mother Teresa home, SOS village, students of Blind school and occupants of Snehalaya in the city.

A midnight drive was carried out on January 6 by Sardar Major Singh and other members with the distribution of blankets to homeless people outside Maligaon railway station, Maligaon locality, the hills of Kamakhya Temple and homeless on the road outside Shukleshwar Temple near Fancy Bazar.

Blankets were also distributed by the Sikh Sangat to nearly 150 people outside Shani Mandir in Fancy Bazar, Buddha Masjid near Guwahati Club, homeless people near Haji Musafirkhana and outside Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Gopinath Nagar, Guwahati, besides poor people near Mazar on Bharalu river.

In an age where, sometimes the actions of the few makes us question humanity, it is heartening to see there are people like the Sikh Community inspiring people to do better.
