Here is good news for the digital media as the question of recognition of the digital news media – which is a new concept in the media – by the Assam government was raised on the floor of the Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday.
In his written query to the Assam Minister for Information and Public Relations, Jania Assembly Constituency’s Congress MLA Abdul Khaleque, who was also a journalist, stated, “In various States of India, the respective governments have given importance to the digital news media by providing advertisements, recognition, etc.”

Khaleque asked, “When the State government would frame guidelines for the digital media which has been playing an important role in Assam and implement the same?”
In the written reply to MLA Khaleque’s query, on behalf of the Chief Minister, who is holding the portfolio of Information and Public Relations, Irrigation and Sericulture Minister Ranjit Dutta said, “For the digital media, which has been playing a vital role in the current news media in Assam, the Information and Public Relations Department has prepared proposal for bringing amendments to the existing guidelines available for print and electronic media. As soon as the inclusion of the amendment proposal is finalized, the guidelines will be implemented as soon as possible.”
It may be mentioned that a considerable number of digital media houses have come up in Assam in the last two years where a large number of media persons have been engaged.
