In a bid to minimize electricity consumption in the State and reducing expenditure on electricity bill by the people, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched ‘Chief Minister Akashdweep Yojana’ in a programme held at Titabor in Jorhat district on Saturday.
The Chief Minister ceremonially distributed LED bulbs to household consumers to mark the launch. The State Government sets a target to cover 52 lakh household consumers under this scheme.

Chief Minister Sonowal on the occasion also ceremonially launched ‘Mukhyamantri Krishi Sa-Sajuli Achoni‘ for Jorhat district under which cheques of Rs 5,000 were distributed among farmers for procurement of farm equipment.
He also distributed land patta to landless families of Titabor sub-division. While ‘Mukhyamantri Krishi Sa-Sajuli Achoni’ will cover 13,780 farmers of 90 GPs in Jorhat district, the government would provide land patta to 770 landless families of Titabor sub-division.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the State Government is working with dedication and committment to ensure social security and economic growth of the people of the State. He said that while the demand and expectations of the people were neglected by the previous governments, the present government has unleased efforts to establish good governance by making Assam free from corruption, illegal migration, insurgency and pollution.

“Our government is working with transparency taking into account the expectations of the people of the State. Successful efforts have been made to clean APSC from corrupt practices. In the most transparent manner, more than 55,000 appointments have been made in government departments as well as through APSC,” he said.
He informed that the present government has completed 26 lakh sanitary toilets and covered almost every household with electricity connection in the State.
The Chief Minister also reasserted the state government’s commitment to safeguard the interests of the indigenous people of the State. He informed that in a bid to protect the local people’s right over land, the State Government would distribute one lakh land patta to landless families during 2019.
Minister of State for Power (independent) Topon Kumar Gogoi while speaking on the occasion said that the Assam government aims at producing 6500 MW electricity by 2030 through augmentation of power production capacity in the State. He informed that while nine MW Myntriang Hydropower project would be commissioned on Sunday, foundation stone for 70 MW solar power project at Amguri in Sivasagar district would be laid on February 27 next.
MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa also spoke on the occasion.
While chairman of APDCL Vinod Kumar Pipersenia delivered the welcome address, the programme was also attended by MLAs Bimal Bora and Jogen Mohan, CEM of Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council Kumud Kachari, deputy CEM of the Council Pratap Kachari, directors of APDCL, AEGCL, APGCL, Jorhat DC Roshni Aparanji Korati, DAO Zakiruddin Ahmed were also present.
