Gold bars weighing around six kilograms were seized from an Air India passenger at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport here on Sunday.

Sources said Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) sleuths seized the gold bars worth Rs 2 crore during regular security check at the airport and detained the Air India passenger.

The passenger has been identified as Lalthithal Liana from Mizoram.  CISF sources said a person handed him over the gold bars on his way to Guwahati from Aizawl. He came to Guwahati ISBT in a super bus from Aizawl.

According to CISF officials, Liana planned to smuggle the gold bars from Guwahati to Kolkata. CISF officials said further investigation into the case is in progress.
