Thirty gold biscuits weighing around 5 kg were seized by anti-smuggling unit of Customs division Imphal in Manipur on Tuesday, according to official sources in Imphal.

The gold biscuits of “foreign origin” having an approximate value of Rs 1.5 crore was seized by acting on specific information from Lamlong Bazar area in Imphal East district, says Assistant Commissioner Rajkumar Darendrajit Singh of Customs (Preventive) Division Imphal informed a press release.

One Yasin son of Rahamat, a resident of Sangai Yumpham in Thoubal district was arrested in this regard.

On March 9, 2018, troops of 12 Assam Rifles had seized 97 gold bars worth Rs 4.8 crore from a Maruti Van (MN01AK 1912) which was proceeding towards Imphal from Moreh in Tengnoupal district of Manipur and arrested one person in this connection, according to a press release issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Assam Rifles.

The troops, while frisking the vehicles at Khudengthabi check post, 90 km south of Imphal on Imphal-Moreh highway and found the gold bars concealed inside the cavity of the car’s chassis.
